hi guys!

I have been cruising the forums here, and a lot of people really don't like Taurus guns.

I own 2 and I love them both. My .357 snubbie is the most reliable gun I've ever owned, and my M66 .357 is super accurate and consistent.

My question is: Why?

I mean specifically why. What happened to you with Taurus that turned you off? Please understand, this is a fact-finding mission for me. I like Taurus, but if there is some huge elephant in the room I don't know about, I want to know.

I am looking for specific experiences in this thread, I want to compile a list and cross reference with other manufacturers. I am a bit of nerd (engineer by trade) and hard data is what I live for.

Let's get a quantifiable list of incidents compiled here, so noobs and others can make accurate judgments!

I'll go first:

Out of the box my M66 would not index with rounds in the cylinder. The tolerances between the cylinder and frame were too tight. Sent it back to Taurus and they told me that there was too much bluing on the frame causing the problem. They replaced the cylinder and the gun now indexes fine and shoots VERY consistent groups. I have about 500 rounds through it, and it is my daily carry piece.

My 605 has been a trooper and a workhorse. No complaints.

Scrapper - I don't have any negative experiences with Taurus and have felt for a while now that they have been turning out some very good bang for the buck guns.

However, prior to about 5 or 6 years ago, Taurus did have a spotty workmanship history, even though they did have a warranty in place.

At some point, either they got serious, or they got bought out, but they completely redid their production facility with all new CNC machines and their overall fit and finish, especially on their semi auto handguns, went way up.

I have handled and shot their PT1911 and for the money, you would be hard pressed to find a better deal in a new in the box 1911. It has all the features and a lifetime warranty for whomever owns the weapon, which is great in my opinion.

I have heard tales of their customer service being difficult to deal with, since you have to send the pistol to Florida I think, instead of the main production facility, and their turn around time isn't the best. That said, I have heard the same thing about EVERY manufacturer out there.

I too would be interested to see some clear cut examples of modern weapons that flat out sucked....

I've heard that there stuff USED to be very...er...spotty. I wonder if we are dealing with leftover bad vibes. I think dates of incidents will be needed as well.

If we get enough of these, I will compile a report and track incidents and trends (WOW...I am REALLY nerdy). I'll post the article here and at the other website I frequent (Bullshido.net). It could be good research.

I've heard that in "the old days" their product was less than satisfactory. but I think that that was a number of years ago .Over the past five years I've owned a number of Taurus handguns, both revolvers and semi-autos, and other than a slightly rough DA trigger on a 17hmr revolver which was easily rectified, I had no problem with any of them. In fact, my PT1911 was an excellent weapon. I think that they've probably got their act together.

In here the Taurus 24/7 is becoming a popular option, and I no heard any complaint ever... and the Model 66 revolver is the reliable workhorse of almost every private security in the country, the Millenium Pro series are very popular around too but I've heard many people complaining about the trigger and stuff, but I've heard exactly the same about the S&W Sigmas...

Good move scrapper, I have never shot a Taurus but have this unexplainable bigitory towards the mark?

I've seen the fiber optic sight (Front sight) come off a Tracker at the range, with 10 rounds through the gun.

I consistently hear about people having to send new ones back to get fine tuned, which is a huge reason I don't buy one. It would kinda suck to get your new gun, go to the range, and 10 minutes later be shipping it off for whatever grinding or part switching is needed.

I too am interested in their QC process, as these stories abound.
