what's better? whatever you can shoot accurately! i have all and carry all at sometime or another. it doesn't matter the caliber, if you can't hit with it. regardless of 9mm or 45. but a hit with a 9mm is still better than a miss with a 45. carry the largest caliber you can shoot accurately.
I agree something you can shoot and hit what you are shooting at !!! I think that is your best option just my opinion ....

The 9MM Parabellum is a Euro concept of handguns. The Euros have always viewed handguns more as badges of authority. The .45 ACP is the icon of American handgun use. Americans of the post Civil War era decided the handgun was and is an effective combat weapon. When a pistol was chosen for American forces the 9MM failed to meet the standards for an American combat weapon. The influence of the U.N. in the 1960s forced the 9mm on the American forces. The Argument that it is cheaper and holds more rounds is not a reason for choosing a combat handgun.

There's a documented case of a perp getting shot with a slug during a police drug raid,it entered his side and exited the opposite side of his body under his collar bone IIRC. Anywho guy bolted out the back door and got away, turned himself in three days later. Any round can fail

If I was going to combat I'd take my fnp-45,but I think a 9mm is plenty adequate to fill a defensive handgun role. Like someone earlier said, buy both, and don't worry about it.

we have all heard stories of people being shot multiple times with a large caliber and surviving, and a single round from a 22lr killing someone. there will always be exceptions to the rule. best way to be prepared is to practice on regular basis, with as large a caliber you can shoot comfortably and accurately. even if you dump ten rounds of 9mm in someone and they survive and you make well placed shots, at least more than likely you will at least take the fight out of them.
