If you're looking at a scenario where you might need to deal with large obstreperous critters as well as humans, I think the 10mm is an ideal compromise between power and handiness. Of course a 4" .41 or .44 might be better...

A great many people, myself included, have found DT quoted ballistics to be quite optimistic. From my old G20 their 180g was closer to 1200 fps. I don't remember exact number, just that it was quite a bit below the factory's claim. Similarly their 200g "bonded bullet" load was not bonded but a Montana Gold HP and not the 1250 fps they claimed but rather under 1200.

Are the ballistics for a 10MM Glock 29 worse?

Ballistics are affected by a lot of factors (barrel length, bullet crimp, powder charge, and maybe a little, by the barrel rifling). Not necessarily by the brand of firearm.

If by "worse" you simply mean a little lower than a G20, yes. And likewise they will be lower than from a 5" 1911 style 10mm. the caliber doesn't change internal ballistics. Shorten the barrel and velocity will be adversely affected.

Thanks that was what I meant.

I like Glocks but haven't got the 29 out of hock as of yet to see how I like shootin' the 10MM.

In the FBI report the comment was made that the 10mm was "only a little better" than the .45ACP.

I have both, shoot both, but funny, seem to shoot the .45ACP a lot more.
I guess it's just more fun to shoot.

I wonder which .45 ACP or 10MM would knock pins offa table better?

compare bullet tip to bullet tip. I liked the 10mm over the .45, but then I reloaded TMJ bullets in both and reduced power to the IPSC Major power factor. I had more in the mag with the 10mm and it still seemed to have enough "authority" to get the job done.

Use the flattest point bullets that will feed through your pistol. Wider flat the better as far as I'm concerned. Roundpoints blow through them too easy. .45 my only experience.
