We have an indoor pistol range I'm a member at. it is only a few miles from the house. If I want to shoot the rifles also I have to drive twelve miles to an outdoor range.

I belong to a club with 25 acres of outdoor ranges. It is 2 miles from the house so I was shooting every week pretty much. Either that or I go up the mountain where there is an old logging road and nobody around. That is 10 miles from the house.

I have lots of open desert almost right out my back door. My favorite spot is just a few blocks from my house, complete with sand dune for backstop. I can set-up anything from an action shooting range to rifle ranges to 300 yards. Been shooting there sense 1985.

I walk out the back door and walk about 25 yards. Sometimes I drag a nice folding table and a folding chair out there with me, if I have to sight something in. I'm able to shoot 100 yards safely and legally, which is more than enough for me.

When I lived in North Carolina I would go down to Kingdom Arms and we would all shoot at their private range; we could shoot everything there including full autos and even .50 cal rifles. Up here, now that it's just me, the biggest caliber rifles I have are my AK, and then my AR and Mini-14 and 100 yards is, for me, just fine for sighting-in and plinking.

We do much of our shooting here.

It is good for rifles out to about 2500 yards, but works great for handgunning too. We have a spot that is flat and open and about 250 yards long and 200 yards wide with several rows of tire backstops. This area is to the left of the hill in the picture and down below in the valley.

It is better than any range, but can be subject to windy weather. The wind does lend a practical level of training to long range rifle shooting, though.

But for a quick run to the indoor range, The Firing Line Indoor Range is close. And for a day of rifle work, The Angeles Range has a 650 yard rifle line and is only about 30 minutes away.

7 miles from my house I own about 20 ac. of woodland with a small hunting cabin and pistol/rifle ranges out to 150yds. I built two permanent and very solid shooting benches and am in the process of clearing some land with my 91/30 and steel core ammo....
