Default What's your experience with the S&W 5906.

I'm not much of a handgunner but I do see the need/use for a good pistol so I recently picked up a used 5906 with Crimson Trace grips. It's about the same size as an officers model 1911 and the all steel construction makes for very mild recoil.

Anyways I think I'm going to like this little gun and wondered what experiences you guys have had with them.

The 5906 is one of the best auto pistols S&W ever made. Solid, accurate, reliable. They are a bit heavy but you will never wear it out.

I've always liked the 5906. Good shooters, and super short trigger reset.

I bought a 5906 almost 20 years ago. When I traded it away years latter it still worked/looked like new. A fine pistol and a good pistol to start with.

I eventualy traded the P225 for a G26 in '96 when they came out. Went to a G19 and on to a full size G37 these days.

I miss them metal S&W pistols. They need to ditch the Glock wannabe attitude and go back to what they are good at. Them old metal Smiths rival the quality of todays SIGs. I would even say they are better than todays SIGs. I feel its akin to Glock making alloy frame guns nothing like an original Glock and dropping the original line with no trace of them ever again.

Good find!!
I'd take a 5906 over any Sig.
