The Mdl. 58 S&W .41 Mag was issued to a number of Police Depts. The San Francisco Motor cops and others used the .41 Mag. The Mdl. 58 is a fine six gun but was it difficult to control in double action firing. The danger of peripheral damage in urban areas and the weight of the big six gun was a minus. This was also the time when Depts were going to semi-autos such as the S&W Mdl. 39-9.
If you are lucky and own a nice vintage Mdl. 58 .41 Mag you have a nice handgun.

My work buddy carries a .41 Ruger Blackhawk for deer. He uses it for a "finish gun". But, he does have it tapped for a scope and has one in his safe he could add on if he wished.

Default For carry

I like the 9mm. It is easy to teach others to shoot. A wide selection of platforms to choose from. Holds lots of rounds...just in case. Love my CZ75 but carry a 6906. I have 45s, 38s and 357s, 45 colt....shot all the rest. For hunting the 45 colt is great. Also the 357is good too. I always send new shooters in the direction of the 9mm because of the ease of shootability, the proliferation of good and cheap ammo, and the wide range of models that fit anyone's hand.

i agree that the 9mm is probably the best centerfire pistol round to start those new to pistol shooting. mild recoil among the best reasons. plus, even after mastering it, you don't have to always go bigger as the 9mm with the proper ammo is still a good SD/HD round.

.264 Winchester Magnum. It's effective and a little quirky. Just like me.

Don't have a favourite handgun caliber. Big Brother doesn't let us get too close to short guns up here in Kanada. They tell us it's for our own good.

For me its the 25.06 for rifle. Probably the 44 mag for pistol as I use it more and more up here.

I have long been a .40 fan, but I am moving to 9.

Big part of that move is wanting a protek 2.

Soon.
