What handgun is your favorite? Hard to answer. That is like owning a Harem of beauties. It is what ever appeals to you on any day.

Elmer Keith was a big .41mag advocate too. He thought it should've been the official police issue back in the revolver days. More powerful than .38spl/.357mag, more well mannered than the .44mag. Had my Ruger Redhawk .41mag at the range last week. Wish it wasn't so expensive to shoot.
Regarding this age old "which is better" debate. If you're talking strictly FMJ, of course the .45acp prevails. Modern ammo evens the odds. Bottom line? If you're not well drilled enough to neutralize the attack with a 9mm, you aren't gonna stop it with a .45 either.

The 44 Mag. has been my hands down favorite since the mid 70s. The Lyman 429421 & 20 grains of 2400 did it all for me for many years. For a rifle the Winchester M70 in 30Govt06 did the same.

Now in retirement I'm going back to the 38/357.

Most shot round though is hands down, 22LR.

I believe your quote to be accurate, but, SS wrote an article an article addressing which handgun he would choose if he were limited to only one. In the article he reminisced about various handguns he had carried and when and where. For his one and only, he chose a S&W model 27 .357 with a 5" barrel. Shame, for leading young ones astray.

That would be my choice!! 8 shot revolver with all the power you we need!! Effectively accurate for kill shots from 50 yards in, if mastered.
