I haven't gotten to shoot one yet, but i did get to fondle a Kahr PM40. I bout got a stiffy it was so nice, and this was a very used pistol. It would be easy to keep concealed (tried the PM40 in my various pockets).

If you want to stick with .45ACP, have you held one of the XD45 compacts? That could be a great excuse to put on a few pounds as cover.

I went to buy an XD or Witness and left with a Ruger SR40.

My local range doesn't have a Sig P239 or any Kahr's for rent but expect some range within a few hours must have them. I have shot the XD and it is a fine pistol but not for me. The G27, I have bought two, One for my daughter (who latter guilted me into trading her my S&W M&P 9C for and I had to find someone to buy the G). The other was for someone else, that one I still have but just doesn't fit my hand. The 5n7 is a lot of fun to shoot but not a carry pistol IMHO, I have a FNP-40 at I carry from time to time.

Thanks for all the suggestion and please keep them coming. I'm liking the Sig, S&W airwieght, Ruger LCR in .357 is hard to pass on, Khar I've never shot one but want to. So many choices.

Will

I'm a 1911 fiend no question. But I also love the Sigs. I have a 229 that has been getting more and more time in the rotation. There are all kinds of trade ins/CPO to get the price around 450-500 bucks.

The BHP is an exceptional weapon though and well worth looking at if you get the chance.

A southpaw shooter? Have you considered a Mauser P-38 pistol? The P-38 ejects out the left side of the gun. Get a good look at the pistol located at:

That is one of the few handguns that a leftie can comfortably use without getting fired cases bouncing off of their foreheads. Just a thought...

My experience with Walther since S&W bought them has not been good. I have a fairly new PPK/S that has been back twice (each time a L-O-N-G wait and poor (at best) customer "service"). Now it has to go back for a recall. I'm done with the new Smith's -- any of them.

For <$800 you have a bunch of good choices. For me, if I had to bet my life on one I pick one where $800 was the top of the price range (e.g., a polymer gun) not the bottom of the range (e.g., a well tuned 1911).

I saved up and carry a Wilson 1911 in 45 ACP -- but in your price range I'd pick a Glock. Pick the size and style you like. I have a 26 and a 34; they always go "boom".

Recon really That is what you offer up? Been shooting left for most my time and rarely get pegged in the head with brass. Looking for real opinons, step up and make an honest suggestion.
