Seems unanimous. Too bad there's such consumer choice on the 1911.
Saying 'get a 1911' is much less specific than saying 'get a Sig 229'. The stickied post in the 1911 forum talks about the range of choices and is right on target. There are a zillion 1911s and it's only gotten worse with the 100 year anniversary.
Time to see which local ranges rent 1911's.
That said: the 1911 certainly has a following, and my experience is that single action 'drop the hammer' pistols have a better feel than striker fired pistols. The 45ACP is also an interesting cartridge with less pressure than a 9mm but lots of mass. I can well believe that the recoil is different feeling.
