As the above posters have suggested, going to a rental range and firing as many pistols as you can should help you decide.
And since you have advised us that the pistol is to be used for a carry weapon that starts to make it a little easier. For most of us, a carry pistol is going to be polymer or aluminum framed due to its lighter weight. If you can narrow it down to action type, as in Double-action-only (ie-Glocks, Springfield XD's, SW M&P,etc.), Double action-single-action (ie-most Sigs, CZ's, Berettas, SW metal framed pistols, etc.) or Single-action-only(ie- most 1911's, some Sigs and CZ's, etc.) it may help some more.
So if you can, go to a range and shoot a bunch of pistols and see what feels right. Good luck.
