If its long range shooting then it probably isn't a viable self defense situation anyway

What? You never heard of a BG robbing someone from 100 yards away?

quite possibly a 30-06 might be a better choice than a 40.

Someone in this thread or one of the other pistol caliber war threads called the 9mm a long range caliber. I thought it was funny is all.

long range 9mm? LMAO!!!!!

You want a long range handgun round? Go with 7.62x25mm Tokarev. That round will reach out an touch something, but that's because it's sending a 85-90gr bullet down range at around 1600-1700 FPS.

I had a guy on our SWAT team tell me he could stand down range at 100 yards with a baseball catchers mitt and catch a .45 round cuz it wouldn't penetrate at that range. So he carried 9mm instead.

I told him that's why the office issued him a rifle and to quit letting the guys use his head for a door breaching tool. LOL.

That is the most throwed off dude I've ever met. He's a freaking genius in the shoothouse. If he's role playing everybody gets shot the frick up. And he is one of the best shooters we have. But holy crap!!! He was SERIOUS!!!

According to Hornady's ballistic calculator, a 200gr jacketed hollow point (muzzle velocity 942 FPS) will still be moving along at 841 FPS at 100 yards. It will still have 314 FT-LBs of energy at that distance. (394 FT-LBs at the muzzle)

I damn sure wouldn't want to catch a 45 acp at 100 yards. Hell, it doesn't even go under 700 FPS until it hits about 300 yards. That guy is crazy!

He was getting old, and yes I agree. I think in his time building guns in Europe, he was brain washed into thinking the 9mm was a good idea

hahaha

That would have been in the 1920's when he said that.
