Default Took a trip to gander today

Well I decided to go to gander mountain today to price a couple handguns and wrap my hands on a few and maybe if I seen one I wanted bad enough take it home. Well some things never change as ganders prices were still $100-$200 higher than other gun stores and dealers. I haven't been there for years and now I remember why. However now it is more of a firearms superstore with pretty much guns along the walls of 2/3 of the store. I was also pleasantly surprised to see the amount of ammo in stock, which was also priced a couple bucks higher than elsewhere but not really complaining about that since they actually had a lot of it. Long story short, the full size glock 21/20 still seems too blocky, the fnx 45 was still a bit large, and the cz p09 duty was not there as usual in all gun stores. Also I found myself drooling over the 1911s again when I told myself I'm not buying another 1911. So all I left with was a box of federal hst 40s&w for around $30 after taxes. I haven't replaced my sd ammo for my g23 in about 4 or 5 years so I figured it was time. Now I don't know which gun I'm gonna buy next.

Best thing I can say about Gander Mountain is I was there last weekend and they had tons of ammo. Prices were ok, about $1 more than at Walmart but they had pallets of handgun ammo everywhere you looked. It was very refreshing to see

Only thing they did not have was 22lr.

Their gun prices are higher though.

I think all the big box stores are that way. Went to a couple of LGS looking at Ruger Alaskans this past weekend. And then went to Cabelas. All 3 had one. It was 814.00, 852.00 and 999.99. You guessed it the last price was Cabelas. I have yet to find a gun at the box stores that I can't buy cheaper at an LGS and I would rather spend my money with them anyway.....

Agree 100%. All the LGS in my area have lower prices on guns compared to Scheels or Cabelas. The only thing I've found is Cabelas has consistently the lowest price on ammo.

I know that gander mountain prices higher because their firearm sales reps get commission off of gun sales.

I went to Gander Mtn Saturday and I was shocked. I saw this.... imageuploadedbyfirearms-talk1387416968.821713.jpg
$130 for 440 rounds! You can get 440 rnds for less than $90 shipped on sale. They only had one type of 7.62x39, it was $23/20 brass cased American Eagle. A 20 round box of Brown Bear 7.62x54r for $30. The only somewhat reasonably priced thing was a $179 M91/30. They had a Lee Enfield No5 Mk1 for $749.... Let's just say they won't be getting my business anymore. I'll stick with Academy, much bigger selection, lower prices, and MUCH friendlier staff.

Yeah I don't care if the staff is mr. Rogers or a bunch of rude idiots, they won't get my business with prices like that. All I will do at gander is handle firearms and buy some sd ammo from time to time. No reason guns should be $200 more than other places

In my area Gander Mountain's ammo is not badly priced. It is slightly higher than Walmart.

Example 50 round boxes of Remington 9mm at Walmart 2 days ago were $14.99 a box before tax. Same exact ammo was $15.99 at Gander. The difference is Gander has tons of 9mm but it's still out of stock a lot at Walmart.

Agree though their guns cost more. I would say about 10% more on average.
