Default Thoughts

Went shooting today after school. Took out a 1911 (don't remember which one unfortunately) and a glock 23. Both in .45. Considering on getting both of them. Tried to do a little research on the 1911 but couldn't find it and called the range and they have a few. Wondering what you think is the best 1911

For the price, Kimber. If you want the absolute best, go with either Ed Brown or Nighthawk

The best 1911? Sig. Keep in mind that I buy to shoot and carry. I don't compete and I sure don't put them in a case so I can admire them as I walk by. I buy them to shoot, and in my experience the Sig 1911 is the most reasonably priced 100% reliable 1911 out there. I took mine out of the box, cleaned it, and went to the range. It has behaved flawlessly, which is what I demand if my loved ones lives may depend on it. I even got 100% reliability using Winchester white box from Wally World. I have yet to find an ammo brand that this thing won't handle.

I saw someone mentioned Kimber. I had one and will never own another one. The one I owned was junk, but I know there are a lot of good Kimbers out there. My complaint was with customer service. I sent it in three times for repair, and every time I got it back it was much worse than it was when I sent it. If you get a good one to start with they are fine guns. If you don't I wish you lots of luck.

"Best" is a subjective value. "least expensive" "most accurate out of the box" "lightest weight" etc. would be better questions.

That price range brings you down to Sig at the high end or RIA at the low end for a 1911. I have never owned anything from RIA, so I can't comment. Sig is within your reach for many different models, and they are fine handguns. I got mine for $850 US

I'd highly recommend just about any of the Sig 1911 models in that price range then. WHOLE lot of bang for your buck.
