I asked this question on another forum with good intentions. The only responses to my post were bashes to the company. This post is intended to draw discussion instead of hatred. I am looking for anyone who has experienced one or both of these.

My wife and I went to a larger GS today... WOW!!! They had more makes and models of handguns and long guns than any LGS around us. I was able to hold a Taurus 85 Polymer revolver. I'm a little skeptical about polymer through the years of ownership and if it will hold up to the years of shooting compared to a stainless model. I love the way it feels in my hands, the weight, and the grip was a delight. I am also considering a 605 DT .357 revolver.

Does anyone have one or both of these, and would you offer your thoughts and opinions, and offer you thoughts on the polymer vs the stainless. I have read nothing but negative opinions on the brand. The gentleman who waited on us told us that Taurus has great CS, and they have a lifetime warranty. I am now seriously considering either the 85 or 605 as my CCW. The 85 has a 2.50 inch barrel opposed to a 2.0 inch on the 605. I understand there will be some recoil on a sort barrel firearm.

This is a legtimate question because I am considering one. Those with experience on either please post your thoughts.

My first purchased handgun was a 605. I really liked it. Probably close to 1000 rounds with no issues what so ever. It sucks to shoot 357 out of but that didn't stop me. I eventually traded it for a Taurus 669. 6 inch 357. I really don't miss the 605 a whole lot but it was an excellent weapon IMHO

I bought the wife a Taurus 85 ultralight (gold trim & pearl grips took a bit of a riding when I picked it up at LGS) and she loves it! I tried to get her to switch to a Ruger LCP but she always reverts back to the 85.
I shot it this weekend with some +p stuff and I have to say its a nice little piece just not my choice.

I have had 4 Taurus firearms. 2 were good and 2 were bad. The little 85 Titanium with a ported barrel was one of the good ones. I really liked the little revolver until I shot it on a darkened range. I was the only one there so I turned off most of the lights. The ported barrel with +P ammo left me blind for a few seconds. That is the only reason I sold it. It was a decent shooter and did not give me any trouble. I have since shot another snub on a darkened range and was not blinded. There was flash but not out of the top of the barrel. The ported barrel was also very loud.

I dont blame her. The 85 is much nicer to shoot than the LCP.

Yes it is but the LCP is much smaller and lighter I thought it was more likely for her to carry it all the time. Reality is she shoots the 85 much better than the LCP so I tried carrying it for a day or two but its just not enough gun for me

During my time on the forums I have come to the conclusion that Taurus as a whole was not a good company with gun issues and CS. However, their products and CS are doing better but still have a way to go. I am seriously giving some thought about purchasing a 605 at some point. I would like to see some reviews before making a decision. Please keep the post going.

Thank you for your posts and your honesty. This was what I was looking for on the other forum.

The Internet, and especially forums, are full of frantic squeaky wheeling. Don't let the over exaggeration deter ya, Taurus is a fine brand. People are just complainers and those happy with a product don't make big deals about it.

This country and modern society has a huge problem with entitlement and expectation. We demand more quality than can reasonably be expected and when we get it we aren't happy about it, we're just entitled to it and consider it due. But when we don't get it, we rant and rave like tantrum throwing tots and this becomes the word of mouth reputation.

Never believe anything you don't see for yourself. I heard about Jimenez and Phoenix and Raven, bought 3 Jimmys &one of each the other and of the lot only one wasn't perfect. With a little work I got it going fine and have been pleased since. I've shot and handled the Taurus handguns and not a one had a single issue and the owners of them claimed their rugged flawlessness. You want real advice, don't ask on online forms or any LGS. They're either uninformed, purposefully misinforming to suit their own snobbery or sales, or relaying someone else's misinformation.

That goes for my own post as well. Lol

Ps, polymer vs steel, I prefer steel, but believe polymer to be fine. Thus far it's proven itself to stand to abuse and keep on pumping shot after shot. Just look at Glock.

BTB & JTJ... Thank you so much for your post. It is refreshing to see a forum exist where discussions can be had without someone bashing the product of discussion. In the short time I've been on this forum, I have concluded you to be very genuine, someone who doesn't beat around the bush or sugar coat, you tell it like it is love it or hate it. You, sirs are a true credit to this forum. This is the reason I have decided that this forum is now home for me. I am honored to be in the presence of great people.
