Summertime carry

This time of year, when the weather begins to warm and my wardrobe shifts from winter / spring, to summer, my age old dilemma once again bugs me; that being summertime carry. For the past few years, having re-discovered revolvers, I have carried my S&W 642, stainless/alloy Air weight snubby, loaded with Hornady Critical Defense .38 spl. +P. I put it in a pocket holster and carry it in my right front pants pocket, or ankle rig. My problem has been, where to put the speed loaders / speed strips. When wearing cargo pants, not a problem. Bluejeans with fewer pockets and a generally tighter fit, can be a problem. Speed loader carriers are a bit too bulky, so I sometimes load a speed strip and carry it in a shirt pocket, but not very securely.

This may not be new to some, but I had a brain-storm last night and wish to share. I dug into one of my boxes of "perfect" holsters (and other gear that didn't quite work out) and found my old leather cartridge loop holder from years (decades really) gone bye. I also found Uncle Mike nylon cartridge loop holders. Placing 5 rounds (it's a 5 shot snubby) into a speed strip, which I then inserted into the cartridge loop holder, and Viola; a belt speed strip holder. They conceal perfectly under my t-shirt and with a gentle pull on the speed strip, the reload is ready to go.

That is nice. I either carry (Semis ) in a cargo shorts pocket, IWB with a thick T shirt or collared polo, or in one of my Man Bags with a pocket holster. Since I only have 1 38 that I'd carry(Colt Cobra 2") I can do the same thing basically, pocket holster or IWB at 2:30-3:00...I also have several different Vests( I know, it's a "Guy Aviator " thing) I have a few different pocket options there. The pockets on most of the vests close with either Velcro, a Snap, or a zipper closure. I can also wear it( as I am this very moment) while outside doing work( gardening today) around my property. My wife has even taken the Cargo pants/shorts/ vest cue from me...

My lifetime experiment with revolvers is over.

I own one service pistol now, and I may add a Walther 380 to that.

No more revolvers. Don't need any.

That being what? Ah, never mind :D

OP has a nice rig for the strip, I haven't seen it before. Flat is key. My 642 has a grip hook for IWB, giving it the lowest possible profile.

Dan, when you make that work out, let me Know, because that deserves a stiff Beverage!!

RJD: please don't do that, I saw a kid blow a hole in his thigh with his M9,...got himself medically discharged for that discharge. He was lucky it didn't hit anything else!!!

I carry this pocket sized Airweight 38 with Crimson Trace laser occasionally in the summer.

I am gonna stick to carrying my full size 1911 IWB for most of the time.

In the past I would carry my Kel-Tec PF9 in a pocket holster inside a cargo short pocket.

Now I have bought a S&W Shield in 40cal and it is the same size as the PF9 (although slightly wider) and I am probably gonna make that my pocket gun. Also I need to get a IWB holster for it too.

It's shorts and t-shirts for me if I'm not at work in the summer.I bought an XDS for summertime carry but last year while it was away at the mother ship for recall I started carrying a full size 1911 IWB in a Simply Rugged Defcon 3 holster. Now it is what I usually grab when I head out the door.

Look at n82 tactical holsters for the shield, and get the "professional" model. Extremely comfortable and conceals the shield very very well, even in just shorts and t-shirt.

Still haven't found a holster I like.

I guess I'll be carrying my full-size

CCs in a waistpack forever...:(

1 Attachment(s)
The stainless one in right front pocket of cargo shorts. Speed strip in the left-side cargo pocket.
