1911, Sig P226, SA XDm, Ruger GP100, and a CZ 75b would all rank high on my list of suggestions. You can also build a pretty decent AR15 for $800.

Leaning toward the 1911 isn't a bad idea. But I might set my sights somewhere other than the Ruger SR1911. I actually have one, and it's a solid gun and a looker at that. But they're awful tough to get your hands on at the moment. While mine is nice and tight, I've seen a couple recent examples with an unacceptable amount of lateral slide slop. So if you do have a line on one, please do take time to inspect it carefully before forking over your $700.

My dealer's been getting customers the Remington R1 Enhanced for $750 or so. You can also get into a Springfield Mil-Spec in whatever finish you prefer for under budget. Those are probably the first two 1911s I'd look at in the $700-800 range.

I would look for a genuine Colt 1911 since you already have a .45. I am the biggest Ruger fan on the planet but if you can't get a Colt 1911 I would be just as happy with a milspec Rock Island Armory 1911.

I own a Kimber Ultra Carry II and I love it. Not sure about the Crimson Carry but Kimbers have a good reputation for their quality and reliability. Is the Crimson the one with a laser? They r a little on the expensive side but well worth it. I've had mine for a few years as my main CC.

Ok thought so. I am of the mind that crimson trace can be more of a hindrance just because you can begin to rely on them rather than your sights. Plus, most confrontations happen in close proximity and so quickly that it's more of point and shoot. With good training, you can bring your weapon on target quickly and accurately.

Of course this is my opinion so I'm sure others have good reasons for having the trace, I just don't see spending the extra $$$.

yea it was more of the looks they didn't have the standard ultra carry II in stock and iv found you can price bargain a little with what they have already. i am leaning a little more for the target II cause i may end up wanting to change the grip's eventually anyway.
