I'm basically an XD fan. I have two (9mm Compact and 45acp Competition Series). The XDs is smaller than either, but available in anything from 9mm to 45acp. I'm currently looking for another caliber and am considering an XDs in 40cal. If I go that way, I'll probably start carrying that.

I am carrying a Kahr CM9 with Crimson Trace laserguard right now. The pistol is only about $400, though extra mags are about $30 or more. The trigger reset is almost all the way out, but that makes every trigger pull consistent and predictable.

I love my Kahr!

One suggestion I have if you go with a Kahr: Buy a new one! Their warranty goes away for the second owner.

I also carry the Kahr CW9. I really love it and would highly recommend it. It has worked flawlessly for me an I would buy another one. I have had some trigger time with a shield and I liked it too and will be purchasing the .40 soon.
