Soooo....now in NY you have to be 21 to get a pistol permit and to buy a handgun and handgun ammo...what if I funded my dad the $ for MY "gift"

I'ts a hybrid of a straw purchase and a gift purchase...

That is a straw purchase and would be illegal that is not a gray area. The crime they choose to charge you with is the gray area. In that document I linked it talked about punishment as well. The average non drug related straw purchaser got 12 months and a felony restricting future gun ownership.

but who would be able to prove that I was the one that gave my dad the money? after all he has already gifted me about 3 guns. He's just a bit unlucky with his job now...I don't think they could prove if I gave him the money or not....

either way I have not done this and do not plan on doing this...because by the time I get the $ together I'd be old enough to buy one myself.
