Arizona has the Mojave Green these are very aggressive snakes. You don't step on them or use sticks. That is unless you are faster than a rattle snake.

Default AZ snakes

I used to carry a 22 Mag derringer w snake shot upper barrel and JHP lower barrel. (for the bipedal variety snake) The performance of snake shot was disappointing & effective range barely outside strike range.

I w go w 38 snake shot - more shot is a good thing !

I am amazed you got away w stepping on one during the day. In AZ, they try to stay in the shade during the day but they are deadly fast. We used to hunt them at night - being cold blooded, they are really slow and like to lay out on roads as they retain heat. You can walk right up to them - you can see they really want to bite ya but it takes them a while to coil up and until they do, you can do anything you please. Very bony critters, not good eating IMHO.

Yes, they are valuable part of ecosystem but I still don't like them and if they get in my way, I will shoot them w/o hesitation or reservation. Nothing goes to waste in the desert, other critters gotta eat too - dinners on me...

I'm such the great white hunter. Snakes are the only living things I have no problem dispatching from this earth. I'll shoot other animals, but I always seem to have some level of regret. Snakes? No problem. Shoot em. Squash em. Chop em. Smash em.

The Army loves its land Navigation courses. In AZ it gets rather hot and shade is at a premium so you find some, be prepared for company. In ROTC we had a nurse stop for hydration and she sat down in the shade. Unfortunately, she sat on a snake and it bit her in the ass.

She must have been lucky because the snake must have just killed something and didn't have any venom left or at least very little was injected. She had a great story to tell her parents...

I'd grab the shortest Judge available and run .410's.

durnagokid your mohave green rattler is not a super snake , just a little rattler. quick?? Lots of snakes that size can move quick. Still a rattler . Maybe some people just don't get all freaky over snakes as others do. Now I hear the same stuff about how quick and diedly the copperhead is. Give them half a chance an most all except a moccasin well leave. They tend to keep comeing.
