Leave the snakes alone- but if you hafta, these have a range of about 15 ft- pattern on any handgun opens very quickly. I also handload 38 Sp shot loads using the Speer plastic capsules and #6 shot.
I have 45 lc caps that I load #7 ½ in my 454 cassull

Yep very true......although I use the Cassul on oppossums in the Shops loft. Works well I must say since I found out a layer of rice paper set between the powder charge and the back of the cap give me ALOT more range. As in they are deadly accurate out to bout 30-45 feet. They also only spread out to about 3' at 30'

I'm loving the idea of a .38 shot shell; I didn't know they existed. Is this something one can purchase right off a shelf, or is this a reloading thing? And I totally agree with " the bigger the round = more shot" mentality. You have a .38 - make it work.

Agreed. Cold blooded means laying low during the day. It just amazes me that you have literally "stepped on one" without being bitten. I'll renege my BS comment if you follow through on your offer; the next time I'm out that way you take me on a day hike. I've been in NY now for 15 years and although I love the flora and fauna here, I miss the West. Also, we have to kill a rattler and eat it because I hear they're pretty good. And then we could use the leftover skin as a bladder and pee in it to help prevent dehydration - Bear Grylls style... Or not.

Forget the pee in it part and just sell the hide to me for a hat band

Bond Arms makes a 2 shot derringer that was initially designed for shakes. It shoots 410 gage, and they now make many calibers & shot shells. They are heavier than the average derringer, which helps a lot with recoil.

I Know that CCI makes snake shot in 9mm to .45 Colt. I own some in .22 lr, .22 mag and .38 spl. Works great. More shot per cartridge being better than less, I would stay with the larger caliber pistol sizes.
