Great advice! Over the course of a few years, every time I found myself at or near a gun counter, I'd pick up a box of (insert caliber and ammo type) for my stash. Using that method I accumulated a pretty respectable supply of ammo, magazines, etc. for my various types of firearms. I began doing that in the good-old-days leading up to the dreaded "Y-2-K," when ammo prices were relatively low, and continued doing so till now and beyond.
I don't know if today's ammo supply problem is because of market driven increases, or gouging, but it is what it is. We can whine about it, or deal with it. Set your priorities and act accordingly.

Little different opinion
I never have been one to wait for the crap to hit the fan before stocking up. I reload and cast my own bullets. As for the gouging the laws of supply and demand have and should rule the market place no matter the product. If I look ahead and invest my money before things get tough then the fact is I just made a good investment. And there is another way to look at gouging. Suppose you were in the sights of hurricane Sandy and had to evacuate. About 50 miles inland a motel owner usually rents his rooms for $75 dollars a night. A car pulls in and it has a mom, dad, mother-in-law and two rug rats evacuating just like you are. They ask the motel owner if he has any room left and is told he has two and they are $75 a night. The dad takes both of them, one for him and his wife and the other for the Mother in law and the rug rats. You come along 5 minutes late and ask the owner if he has any rooms left and he says nope and your back on the road. Now supposed he had told the first car that the rooms are $375 a night. Chances are they would have just taken one room and made do. Then when you come along there is a empty room. It might be high but at least you have a place to take a shower, watch the news and see whats happening and a place to sleep instead of being back on the road looking for some place to rest and listening to your wife complaining. lol. I'm just saying.

I was called a hoarder some years ago. I kept saying that it's happened before it will again. Now I have enough ammo to ride out this time around too. It's not hoarding, it's being prepared. I've had offers to sell 500/1K ct boxes and could make a ton of money. But then I don't have those boxes and I pick up a healthy dose of bad karma. I started before the first go around with Dr. O and told peopel to do the same. I can't count the people that called me crazy. I can't count the peopl that said it was stupid on this web forum. Today I went and shot several guns for a couple hours today. And might tomorrow too.
I too keep a list of people form gun sales/trader sites that are taking too much advantage. A 500-=600 dollar SKS?!?!?!?!? Right now there's a M type SKS (takes AK mags)on gunbroker for 1400 bucks I wonder what mine would price at with a Tapco stock to go along with the OEM wood one. Don't matter, I like it and wont sell it anyway. But if I did I could not sleep making that kind of profit. CTD? If anyone buys form then they deserve to get what they get. They have been known for years to pull that crap. Supply and demand is one thing. Getting crazy is another. But as long as people keep paying it that is what the market bares and that's what things will sell for.
Stop it...Stop feeding the frenzy people and it will calm down. Until them I hope everyone is prepared. Otherwise you'll be sitting there with overpriced guns and no ammo.

I gotta say, it is capitalism at it's finest. I so happen to have a bunch of 9, 223, 22, and 45 on hand. I started selling some on armslist. I sell 9mm on there, blazer aluminum boxes for 20. They retail for about 16 bucks. And I get hate mail almost everyday from jackasses telling me i'm part of the problem........lol. Bullets are being treated as a commodity nowadays. I don't set the price, the market sets the price. Just because I was prepared and others weren't that makes me the bad guy. Those people MUST have voted for Obamanism. I don't have to sell it for $20, I could list it for $50 or just not list it at all and there wouldn't be any availability. There is 0 9mm ammo available around here. People stand in line 1-2 hours before the sporting goods stores open in the hopes that what they want came on the truck, only to find that it didn't or the people ahead of them bought it all. They also instituted a maximum of 3 boxes total per customer per day.....so 3 boxes of 9 or 2 boxes of 9 and 1 box of .223. So, I make the stuff available and make 4 bucks a box since I have it stocked up.
Sorry for the rant, just pisses me off when people act like socialist commies when americans use the capitalism system

Whineing about a dollar a round?? Thats what I use to pay for my ammo before this crazyness (and before I got a press )
Welcome to my world of expensive and hard to find ammo! The Garand I want was $2,000+ before all your AR's were.....
No one feels pity for me, so no pity for you!
