You pick what fits you and your other half the best. Totally unlike your work situation JW, where you have to take what they hand you..

Amen to that brother.

We're never going to "settle" on a gun again. We're too informed now, and actually have opinions. When we bought the Taurus and Bersa, we were like "oooh, inexpensive." Yeah. Well. Again, those two particular guns just didn't work out for us.

Live and learn, right?

Have you considered a S&W CS40 or 45 or a 3906 or 5906 I know the 3906 and 5906 are 9x19mm? Maybe a 4006? I love my 469, if it wasn't as fat as it is it'd be a perfect pocket carry handgun for everyday.
RIA seems to have a dedicated following. I have no experience with them, but I know they offer a good warranty and an attractive price. I would like to shoot one before I made my decision.

Regarding the Smiths you recommend. No, I haven't really considered any of them. I'm sure they're great guns, but the thought just hasn't come to me. I've never even held any of them (don't know if I've seen any in LGS' either), so I don't have an opinion of them. I would like to run into some and hold them.

The 469 has a manual safety, right? For a range gun I'm ok with that, but would prefer my carry gun not have a safety. Just my preference. Besides, I'm not really trying to get a semi-auto for carry purposes. I have my M&P9c for that, which I will be keeping. I love that gun.

If I get another carry gun, it would be either a small frame .357 Magnum revolver for CC or a large frame .357 for OC.

I own 5 S&W revolvers. Every one is top notch. I also own a Ruger 22/45. That is also a great gun. I have several Ruger single action revolvers. They are top quality guns as well. I can not imagine you buying any revolver that has Ruger or S&W on it that you would not be happy with. When it comes to name brands you definitely get what you pay for. I bought 2 Taurus hand guns. I do not own either of them anymore.

For a great range/fun gun the S&W 617 is hard to beat. One of my first handguns was an old K22. It was one of the best training tools for new shooters. A good frame size, good sight radius, easy to understand, could teach double and single action trigger use. It was a good backpacking gun for snakes, and good for running a trap line to dispatch critters.

I've had good luck with Springfield Armory, Rock Island Armory, Colt, old pre series II Kimbers, in the 1911 category.

Hey I saw a real pretty 617 in 22LR with an 8" barrel. The Guy wanted $750.

Not a terrible price. I'd prefer a shorter barrel. Maybe 4"

I don't believe you can go wrong with any quality 1911. I already have several in my collection and intend to add more in the future. I have a Kimber that is a really nice handgun. Btw I have a place in eastern N.C. and love it.

You have (conservatively) 20 grand worth of guns hanging on a board in an unfinished basement?

Not exactally. I have $??? worth of guns hanging on a board in a vault with 8" concrete walls and steel with 6" of concrete ceiling, a dehumifier and heater that keeps the humidity at a steady 35% and temperature at 75 degrees with long guns in racks along 3 walls, in a unfinished basement which I prefer to refer to as the man cave. Oh and the metal cabinet with double locks is my ammo locker. Want the rest of the tour?
