It depends on what you're geared to... If your an average citizen, I think closer ranges are fine to keep it at. But, for military or law enforcement, if you carry around town, you're trained with a different response. If you hear the world going to hell in a hand basket while in the mall, it's a natural and proper response to get your family safely out. But, some will run towards the threat. We shoot, it's our fun. What's an extra 50 rounds of ammo every once in a while..... just to be proficient at 20 to 30 yards? It's the SAME fundamentals as at the 15. You might not be the innocent person needing help, it might be someone 25 yards down range. Never mistake willingness for capability. I vote we should push our limits. If you're hot at 15 yards, back that target up and turn the heat up some more!

no prob,making 12oz. cans dance @100yrds w/my S.A.1911...& that poor blater tank measures 24''h/14''w..150yrds using a ruger mkIII w/bushnell reddot on prob...i love how it takes almost a full sec. to hear the ''bink'' sound
