Default S&W SD9 or SD40 Pistol Help

My daughter Jenny's boyfriend has got the bug up to get a S&W SD9 or SD40 pistol. I don't know a damn thing about them.

Anyone who does, HELP!

What I've heard moreso than personal experience, but...

Think Sigma models with an improved trigger. In other words: a simple, reliable, no frills poly gun for about $375-400.

It's probably a really solid gun for that price. But if scraping together the extra $100-200 required to get into the Glock/XD/M&P market is easy enough, that might make sense given the availability of parts & accessories for models so common throughout the LE community.

Thanks and due to "financial considerations" he put the pistol on hold for a few...
