i wanted to know if there were any reviews on the S&W sigma model SW40VE with the polymer frame, a 4 inch barrel and a capacity of 14+1. what do you guys think of this handgun?

You are going to get a lot of replies that says how bad the trigger is. I have the Sigma VE in 9 mm and the trigger is similar to a double action revolver more so than a tuned 1911. In my opinion, the Sigma VE series is a lot of gun for the money. I have never had a failure of any kind with mine and the trigger gets better with use and dry firing. If you want a dependable pistol without spending a fortune, the Sigma is a great deal and if something were to happen, S&W will stand behind it. I get tired of hearing from people who buy a pistol for less than $300. and then complain because the trigger is not as good as their high $ "whatever."

i really appreciate the reply. i've seen some really good reviews about the S&W sigma series. i'm really thinking about getting one in .40 cal. because i really can't afford to get something high $

on a side note.........is there not much activity on this website? it seems kind of slow around here

I haven't been a member here very long and it is pretty slow. Long time between posts, but I drop by occassionaly. I lurk around on a lot of other forums. Get the Sigma, you'll like it.

Right now the M&P and the Sigma both have a $50 factory rebate and two free magazines from S&W.

Nope. Not much activity here. I stop by every day but do not have much occasion to post.

I have 2 Sigmas. A 40C that I carry daily and a 9V that is my back up. There were some problems with the very first ones made (PAA and PAB prefix serial numbers) but Smith fixed the problem. They had chambers that were too tight. They would not function when dirty of with reloads. The .40 S&W was brand new and they had not yet figured out what dimensions were needed to insure reliability.
The first E models had some striker breakage problems but, once again, Smith fixed the problem.
The trigger is longer and heavier than a Glock or Colt 1911. It was designed to be similar to a double action revolver. Both of mine have been extremely reliable. You cannot beat the price.

BTW, Smith just got the contract to arm the Afgani military with Sigma 9's. they will be making a BUNCH of them in the near future.

ya'll have been a big help. i'm really leaning towards the sigma. i want a polymer frame but i don't have the money to spend on a glock or xd. i think i will go with the sigma. although i would still like to hear more input if anyone else wants give thier 2 cents.

My employer issued me a Sigma .40VE, for duty use, which shoots well ever time I press the trigger. The trigger does take some getting used to, but depending on your shooting ability, isn't all that difficult.
