S&W 357 Magnum

One of my buddies want to sell his s&w 357 magnum. Its mint mint conditon, plus he has over 1200 rounds that comes with it. Asking 1200. Is that a good deal?

Thanks:

We'll need a model and description. Pics would be nice too. Different models of Smith and Wessons have vastly different values.

For what it's worth, I can't think off the top of my head of a single used S&W .357 that I would give $1200 for. Ammo is valuable though, and it could very well could be making up a lot of that asking price.

Are those reloaded rounds or store bought?

At first blush, it does not seem like he's that great a buddy.

The ammo could be worth quite a bit, maybe $400 to $600, so assume $500, that leaves $700 for the revolver. So we need more details on the ammo and the revolver.

IMHO, you might be better off buying a new revolver and ammo as you go.

The revolver could be worth $600. It all comes down to the ammo. I agree with jeep, unless the ammo is a steal I'd just buy ammo as you go. You could by some cheaper .38 spl to plink with then.

How picky are you about cosmetics? J&G Sales had some police trade-in S&W .38's for about $300 + shipping, last i looked.

They had some .357's for about $150 more. http://www.jgsales.com/smith-wesson-model-66-357mag-4in-stainless-steel-revolver,-used,-overall-very-good-condition-s-w-p-6718.html Buy two & trade him one for his ammo. ;)

It depends on the model and the ammo. A 627PC or nice classic 27 + 1200 rounds of factory Mag ammo? Good deal. A vintage model 65 or 66 and mostly .38 Spl ammo? Not so much.

Gonna need more info. What is the model of the gun? S&W makes a lot of different .357s and they are not all the same.

Also find out what kind of ammo it is. Is it .38 Special or .357? Is it hollow point, lead, etc?
