russian or us ammo?
Which would u prefer?

gr8oldguy 02-23-2013 11:31 PM

It doesn't matter to me. Tul Ammo, for example, is dirty, but shoots fine.

For target work? The cheaper the better. Accuracy? Premium american made ammo as I don't reload yet.

What caliber? 7.62 X 39? Russian is fine by me. I like the US made (reloadable) ammo too. 9 x 18? Russian is fine.

These days....?
Whichever one I can find.
Either of them shoot fine.

I will not buy Tula my guns don't like it.
For personal protection I only use US made brass cased.
For everything else buy what you can, like they say "Buy it cheep, Stock it deep!" that was back when it was possible.
For my AKs I have used corrosive bulk ammo & did a good cleaning afterwards.

I bought a box of Russian 9mm steel case ball ammo this summer. I do not remember the name, but I can go check it out at the hunting store. Anyways, 1 of the 50 rounds misfired out of my Sig P226. I have shot many hundreds of rounds out of that gun, and this was a first. For practice, sure. The ammo was cheap and abundent. For real world applications, hell no. I will stick with my Magtech hollow points.

Depends on use.

For practice at 7 and 10 yards, Wolf, vBarnaul, Tula, Brown Bear, etc. Or better yet, my hand loads.

For social work, premium Remington, Winchester, Federal, Speer, Hornady.

If it's on the shelf, I'm buying it.

For me, the Russian ammo is crap. I dont mind paying more for good American made brass ammo for target. And I will spend whatever it takes for personal protection ammo. Not worth my time or life messing with that tullammo crap. I dont own cheap firearms so they will get quality ammo. But to each his own, do what you want with your own firearm. Good luck!!
