Kind of a vague question.
I'll take Springfield's 1911s and the XD/XDm polymers over similar Rugers. Springfield Armory is really about three designs: 1911s, XD/XDm polymers, and the M14/M1A. That's it. And in my experience they've executed each of those three facets very well.
Ruger 1911s and SR-series polymers are just fine though. And Ruger offers a far wider variety of guns (pistol or otherwise) than Springfield. Great revolvers, neat little pocket guns, outstanding rimfire pistols, and various solid long gun platforms.
