Ruger Blackhawk 357/9mm
Hello folks,

Just bought the BlackHawk convertible and wanted to know your thoughts, even though it's toooo late for me. Thanks.

Go ahead and shoot it and *YOU* tell *US* how you like it.
Overall, I like Blackhawks, I own a few variations myself.
I've heard that the 9/.357 version is more accurate with .357's than with the 9's because of the diameter difference (.355 vs .357). But that's a smaller difference than with the convertible model I have .45ACP (.451) / .45LC (.457).
Mine definately shoots better with the .45LC.
I also have a 4" Vaquero Birdshead .45LC (case hardened finish) and a 6" Stainless .357 Blackhawk. I like them all, they're nice guns and a rugged proven design with millions of copies sold over the years.
The only modification I suggest is the addition of the "free spin pawl". I have these in two of mine and it makes loading and unloading a lot easier.
Enjoy your new toy! :o

Man.... you must be old like me ZAPPA, he was the best. I don't know what you mean by the free spin pawl. Forgive my ignorance. I will tell YOU what I think when it arrives. Thanks. Ridge

The "Free Spin Pawl" is an aftermarket part that allows you to spin the cylinder freely in either direction when the loading gate is open. This is a really nice feature to have because you can back-up the cylinder rotation if you overshoot the chamber when loading or unloading. It's made by Power Custom and sold through Midway and Brownells.

Sounds good. I have a single six (don't laugh) in 17HMR. Would this work for that one as well.Ridge

Yes, they also make them for the Single-Six, it's a different part number than the one for the Blackhawk.

Ruger 9mm/357
I got one, and i reload my own . . . i use the 147gr, a +P load with Mag Primer and have good accuracy, not perfect but i'd trust my life with it.

I have several .357 SS NMBHs that my wife and I use for CAS. When I got a pair of 50th Anniversary Blackhawks for my wife, I had a spare pair of 4 5/8” .357s. I sent one in to Ruger for a 6 ˝” barrel and a 9mm cylinder. The down side was they kept the hammer and trigger I had smoothed to provide a terrific trigger. On the good side, I got a very accurate gun back that shoots very nice groups in .357 and is nearly as good, despite the difference in bullet diameter, with CCI Blazer in 9mm. I wasn’t surprised by the accuracy in .357, but I was surprised by the very good accuracy with the 9mm Blazer. I haven’t used enough other ammo to know yet if it shoots other stuff as well.
