Ruger .380 buy?

Locally on sale for $320.

SWMBO bought a P22, and I was never happy with the reliability of this firearm. She since bought a Beretta 380 as her primary carry, and I'll still carry my XDM9c most of the time. BUT, I have fallen in love with the size for those occasional carry's where a small gun makes life easier.

If it's a good buy, I'll probably see if I can unload the P22.

Seems about the going price.

The Rugers I looked at seem to have a little roughness when working the slide, but okay.
I ended up buying the Kel-Tec P-3AT.

I think they both (P-3AT and the LCP) shoot about the same. They both seem reliable and are small enough that you will probably always have it on you which is the most important thing.

Today I seen one in a shop today that was an Arizona centennial model. Regular price(about $330).
Kinda special one I thought.

.380 is a useless defense round.

I have a Ruger LCP, and I have fired hundreds of rounds through it without a single malfunction. That being said, I stopped carrying it after a trip to the range one day. I was at about 5-7 yards from the knock over target, and I watched round after round flatten out and bounce back at me, without dropping the plate. If I ever need to protect myself, I may or may not be able to get on target, but if I'm fortunate enough to hit the bad guy before he hits me - I want that shot to hit hard enough to end it. I now carry a .357, and have the confidence that if I do what I'm supposed to do, my gun will return the favor.

Maybe this time of year in Anchorage but down here in South Florida it works just fine year around.

There are a bunch of uber compact 9's really close to that pricepoint.

I'd suggest you check out a Kahr CM 9 before going with any .380

In my experience any of these "nominally" larger 9's actually give you "enough gun" for a proper shooting grip and I've had far fewer problems with major caliber "locked breach" designs than with "blow back" mouse guns.

I've had 100% reliability out my Kahr PM 9 and carried it effortlessly for 4 years now.

Good Luck
