My vote goes for a .357 magnum revolver, too.

i vote for a revolver in 357 or 44 mag. in either a 4 or 6" barrel. either one you can find ammo almost anywhere, and are easy to reload for if you wanted. plus with those two calibers, you have the choice of 38sp or 357 mag., or 44sp or 44 mag. lots of choices with these two calibers. i have a 44mag revolver and am suprised at how much i like shooting it, even with hot handloaded magnum loads.

If you're going to have just one, you've got the right one! IMO, the Colt Python is the best looking and best shooting .357 Magnum ever made.

Every handgun collection should have a 357 mag and a 44 mag. IMHO.

What are you planning to do with the gun? If you're using it as a sidearm say for hunting, I would go with the .44, it's heavy to carry long distances but packs a big punch, useful for bear hunting. One side note is that you should not buy the "snub nose" or any barrel under 4" for a .44, they're wild, out of control, and nearly useless. You probably won't hit the broad side of a barn door. I have a Ruger Blackhawk .44 with a 7" barrel, it's perfect for hunting because I know I can stop anything that lives near me. Plus the 7" barrel gives it more accuracy (decently accurate up to about 50 yards) and it helps hold the nose down when firing (helps with muzzle rise if you will).

I was planning on using it as a sidearm for hunting and for some target shooting. Less of the target shooting though.
As far as a .357 mag goes, I am just looking for my first revolver. I shot my dads .357 and it shot great but I have become fond of both the 500 and .44 yet I do agree that eventually I will have to have a .357.
