I think all guns should be outlawed and we should just slap each other like real men.

Seriously though, I agree Possum. There are certain calibers I prefer for certain applications (if I had unlimited funds I would already have all my bases covered. Alas...).

But I always maintain proficiency is the key to everything. Which is why I would feel perfectly comfortable carrying a wheel gun, despite its limited capacity. I have the most faith in their ability to go bang every time, and I am probably more proficient with my wheel gun than I am with my semis.

I totally agree. Oh, may I add, 9mm's are also good for women.

Thinking about it, if I ain't a 1911 style auto, I sorta prefer a wheelgun.

Raise your hand if you're a wimpy woman like me!

Actually, I'm a big man and chose the 9mm as my CC and HD guns, after my wife found that shooting a .357, even in a S&W mod. 19 was uncomfortable. In the mod. 60 Ladysmith, it is uncomfortable for me to shoot .357.

She enjoys shooting .38 spl. in the S&Ws and 9mm is fine by her, in our LC9 & SR9c.

I wanted to commonize our weapons & ammo, so .38 spl. & 9mm are my choices. I don't need anyone to shoot me with either of these calibers to prove to me that they are not wimpy or for women only.

Not a bad article. Which is not to say that I don't PREFER certain guns and certain calibers. But fancy don't always mean less effective.

That's all there is to it. Everything else -- type of gun, make and model of gun, ammunition, holster, etc. -- is purely secondary. .22 will kill you as dead as a .44 magnum. There is no magic.
I agree to a point. When it comes to rimfire they are unreliable in ignition. Especially in cold weather. So when it comes to 22 they MIGHT go bang.

The purpose of self defense isnt to kill its to stop an attack from continuing. Whether the goblin lives or dies isnt important. Him ceasing to murder rob or rape you is what matters so a firearm that has a great likelihood of its ammo not working as intended is not a good choice.

certainly true! but every 22 I've had is pretty dang reliable....maybe a bit less in semi auto than some others, but they generally go bang and I've shot em outdoors in cold weather (well, texas cold weather ) more than a few times.....

hard to tell what will stop who? lots of variables there. a 22 may shock or kill one for the stop, while another person walks through a few rounds of 223to get to you. shot placement is probably the only thing you can really control. very few calibers guarantee a stop all the time....though some can certainly increase your chances.

9 and 38 do the job....i like both and would trust my life to either....anyone who is unconvinced needs to prove these rounds inability to stop by taking one center mass.....

if you can drink a beer with me after I plug you one in the chest with a 9mm.....i'll admit you were right all along!....and the beer and ER will both be on me!

j/k OF COURSE!
