Premature Discharge During Extraction

What are the attributes for the Hi-Point firing pin springs.

I have read in another website about a cartridge firing while cycling live ammo due to the firing pin being use to eject a live round. This seems probable but unlikely since pressure and penetration is based on the speed and psi of the firing pin hitting the primer.

A typical firing pin spring has the following attributes.

- Protrusion should be about 0.055" (.040 to .060 acceptable)
- Firing-pin spring pressure about 20-25 pounds.
- Firing-pin penetration should be about 0.020".

I have cycled live cartridges through my Hi-Point pistols and not had any discharges during extraction. Has anyone experienced this premature discharge during manual extraction?

Best thread title ever!

I have not experienced it (premature discharge) with my Hi point that I use for plinking at the range, but I have noticed some light pin marks that is maybe a couple of thou deep in my live rounds that I have ejected before. That and a few other reasons is why I use it for cheep plinking and not a carry weapon.

I hope it doesn't result in a paternity suit.

I never experienced that problem.
Premature discharge during cartridge insertion I could see, but never extraction.

The OP is talking about when you pull a live round out of the chamber in the unloading process. When you do that with a Hi point the firing pin sticks out to push the round out of the extractor claws.
