because I didnt take as many precautions therefor the finish is horrible

Just did the slide on my old 1911 a couple weeks ago- If you have any real marks on it I'd just wet sand it- It'll of course remove the blue & smooth the finish off.
Of course only use the lightest grit you need - Then polish it out with a cloth wheel or even a dremmil polishing wheel

Well if your like me than your guns have there own sentimental value to them and won't ever get rid of them anyways therefore if u wanna refinish your 1911 I say go for it. It's yours to do with what u want and if it doesn't turn out right u can do it again. Plus u can say u did it yourself therefore it's sentimental value goes up even if the physician value goes down...good luck buddy
