"In any situation if you take a target 20 feet away and just point your finger at it, then put your head down on your arm and follow the line of sight, you will have inevitably missed your target either completely or significantly enough that you just should have brought the gun to your eyes in the first place."

I have personally disproven this as indicated in my initial post. I only posted on the subject because I was surprised how accurate and fast it is. Thanks to contributors for all the references, and I'll now retire from this thread. At least for the night.

I'm talking about the BG being in-your-face, cut your liver out distance. How the hell are you going to acquire the target when you can take an alcohol level reading from his foul breath blowing in your face?

If your shooting stance is on your mind in this scenario, you will die! This drill must be practiced and become muscle memory. Face it, because it’s the most likely shooting incident you will encounter

Thank you for your service but I can only guess that your time spent was rather quiet.

Here’s rules 12 & 13 for a gun fight;
12. Have a plan.
13. Have a back-up plan, because the first one won't work. "No battle plan ever survives 10 seconds past first contact with an enemy."
Stuck on stupid, thanks for the insult. My service was not "rather quiet". I cleared the hospital in south america that brought several american students home safe. I did my part in Panama as a Sgt and in the first storm I was a LT. One of the few ground troops deployed in a hosile area. Oh and three years as a LEO in a Metro area. That is were I expressed my opinion.

Fair to ask where your "stuck on stupid" remarks comes froms from. Where doese your training give you the right to express that? I have eight years USMC training and experience and three years LEO training and experience. What is your experience? Don't skip pass this as you need to express your qualifications, otherwise your just a loud mouth.

I know with out question I can aquire a traget before I pull the trigger, if I can't I know I'm man enough to make it right before I pull the trigger. I'm not going to pop rounds with out knowing where they will end up.

At 62 circuits around the sun I feel no obligation to answer to your inquiry.

As to my qualifications, Tom Clancy said it best, "There are several ways for a junior officer to impress the Captain, there's only one way for a Captain to impress a crew, Leadership."

At 40+ years as a safe carry, that obligation still does not surface.

I'm secure in my manhood son, check your adversaries before you jump.

Sometime in your storied life I hope you are not forced into a situation that requires a skill you have neglected to study.

By the way, it's South America, hostile, from, does, acquire and target.

Work on the fundamentals before you step into the caged ring son.

I don't know if you two guys are talking around each other or actually disagree.

WDB, you use the terms acquire and aim, when the debate seems to be about sighted fire. You have the experience you do, have you never practiced one-handed/close combat pistol shooting? There must be some misunderstanding in the argument here.

When you were a police officer did your qualification course have close-combat shooting? My states police qualification course includes firing three rounds from standing position in 2.5 seconds with draw from the holster. It specifies "one-hand, close quarter position" which is designed for distances where extending the firearm for sighted fire would place you in a position of disadvantage (worse than the one you're already in with your threat that close).

Something like this:

Being stuck in the hole with your attacker will require non-sighted fire, that doesn't mean you're letting rounds fly without understanding where they are going. I think this is what Col. Cooper and Canebrake are probably talking about.

Even beyond contact distances, at close quarters there are legitimate arguments for point shooting concepts (just as there are arguments against it).

I'm not arguing for "spray and pray" but I do believe that not all aimed fire is necessarily sighted fire.

I really think it's time to lock this thread now..........

Some people gotta learn to agree to disagree with each other.
