if she doesn't see the error of her ways and thinking, then remove the pistol and be damned if she gets upset or mad. better her mad and upset vs. a hurt or dead child.
I have a Barska biometric safe fits 3 guns with lots of room to play... Highly recommend. Takes about 4 sec to retrieve a firearm.
Brother be safe not sorry.

4 seconds - How long does it take a intruder to pull a trigger
I really don't belive in safes for a HD gun BUT you have to find what works that keeps the kids away--
So many options, so many different situations -

This is not to mention the possible legal consequences. I say put that gun away NOW. Why do you feel the need to have a loaded gun immediately available in the house? Does a threat situation exist? If so, that needs to be taken care of. I know some of you might not agree with me but that is my opinion.
Not to mention it's a felony for a child to have access to a loaded gun.

You are right and I thought long and hard about it before they all ended up in a safe... I feel that if I did not have them in a safe the odds of one of my boys getting there hands on them were greater then a break in. I shopped around and read many reviews before I bought my safe, No combinations to remember in a panic and can be opened in complete darkness 4 sec it is my hand. Anyways it is unlikely I would wake up during a break in til it was to late, Nothing wakes me up.

It is nice having my guns for HD but I really bought them for CCW and target shooting.
I trust my kids but I trust my instinct more... lock em up!

Sorry, I can't believe this is a serious thread -- I believe the OP is making this situation up.

You make me laugh because you sound like a guy I work with, he's a retired cop and a good guy... Well if I did not have kids I would be the same way with out a doubt.

same for me. but i think that what he said makes sense, as the possibility of a child getting ahold of a loaded gun is more apt to happen than a break-in. when children are involved, better to err on the side of caution.

I have a quick access biometric safe, too. A Gun Vault. My guns are always locked in the safe or on me. With three barking dogs I think I have a few seconds to open my safe and get my gun out. There is no way an intruder is going to be able to sneak up on me in my house without me knowing something is going down first. By the time the intruder gets in the door or window, he will be looking at the barrel of my gun.

i still believe a dog is one of the best first early warning systems there are. it doesn't even have to be a big dog, or a vicious dog, just one that will bark at noise that doesn't seem normal to them. with the outside dogs i have, you can't hardly even get within 100 yards of my house! then the smaller ones inside think they are badder than they are with their barking! so i too have an edge, and i can tell by the sound of their barking whether someone has driven up to the house or if it's just some critter in the yard.
