Among others mentioned I'd add Ruger & Bersa, both great bang for buck manufacturers.

Buds guns has GLOCK 27's listed as $575-580 for a gen 3 and G4's are $620ish I think? But finding one is more difficult. Buds had G3 27's in stock for about 3 days and I almost bought one and didn't.....now they're outta stock again.

Hey OP, you didn't state a budget! Here's my favorites, none cheap;

Beretta 92/96 series

Ruger single actions. Check out Single Six, and Single 10, as well as the bigger versions.

SIG. Last yearI bought a P938. Fabulous! But look hard a ALL SIGs.

IF I could afford to shoot it: Springfield 1911. (But I can't.)

Walther P22. People dump on them hard, and I agree, I once sold one that I couldn't make work, but I have heard since that you can, with cleaning and the right ammo. This remains as one of the .22 pistols I like the looks and feel of the best.

That's a large budget. In that case your options are near endless.

I got a glock 27 for around $590 tax and all. Then I order a 9mm conversion barrel for about 105 $. Personally I like glocks for self defense/concealed carry. But there are deffenitly better guns out there for just range and target shooting.

With a budget like that you can get very well equipped. Couple of 1911's, couple of CCW's and a couple of AR's. Ammo and holster's. I know many fail to mention Magnum Research guns but they make a nice 1911. CZ also makes great pistols. Enjoy.

Maybe, if you bought carefully, and maybe used. Throw in any amount of ammo, and I doubt it......
