I carry my Glock 19 with two different type rounds. The first round in the chamber and in the magazine are "Pow'RBall" 9mm Luger +P 100gr. The fourteen remaining rounds are "Winchester Bonded PDX1 9mm Luger +P 124gr JHP Bonded.

Pow'RBall Velocity 1475 fps Energy 483 ft/lbs
Winchester Bonded PDX1 Velocity 1200 Energy 396

Looking at numbers on a piece of paper do not correlate well for a given bullet's effectiveness.

Way too many variables like bullet meplat, weight, bad guy clothing and on and on.

If you want a good hard hitting 9mm you would be hard pressed to beat the Buffalo Bore 9mm Luger +P+ 115 gr. JHP (1,400 fps/M.E. 500 ft.lbs.)

I was shopping around online for ammo and found Federal 9mm +P+ ammo that says reccommended for law enforcement and it just makes me nervous to use it in my $300 Ruger.

+P or +P+ ammo can accellerate wear on any gun. However, a few boxes through your Ruger will do no damage at all.
