I have one - opinions:

Pro's:
Very very light
Very fun to shoot
Accurate
Extremely reliable
Well made - very precision construction
Easy takedown & cleaning
Very cool round that it shoots
Very low recoil
My kids LOVE it - one of their favorite guns to take shooting.

Con's:
Expensive
VERY expensive ammo/round (sometimes hard to find too)
Large/hard to conceal

Overall the pros outweigh the cons - it is a very cool gun to own.
Practical?
Probably not as much (but what does that have to do with this hobby of ours?)

I say go for it if you have the funds...

Try and shoot one first. Ammo can be found for $20-25/50rnds. I find them a little awkward in my hand, but I am sure with time I could get used to it. I have a friend that owns one and I have shot it a decent amount.

I was looking hard at one a while back. They are exceptionally cool, at least in concept.
However, I feel that the guns are stupidly expensive. $1K+ for what is, lets be honest, an awkward looking plastic pistol.
Ammo is not cheap, but to be fair, .44 mag is about the same or worse.
I couldn't justify the cost for my needs. YMMV. I'd like to see the caliber catch on with some other makers to help bring the costs down. IMHO, it's just a bit too narrow of a market. Whatever you do, I'd see about a range rental to see if it's your cup 'o' tea.
Worth noting: the pistols seem to pop up pretty regularly on the used market. Keep an eye out when looking to buy.

If you can afford to add (and feed) one as an extra toy, they're pretty cool.

As a primary handgun option? Not for me. There are just more practical options out there with far easier appetites to satisfy. But they're decent for pistol varminting, extended range target shooting, and also appeal to recoil sensitive folks. The dimensions and ergos of the gun are pretty strange. If FN made this damn thing available for $700, they'd probably make the difference back in ammo sales (just a thought/suggestion) to a bevy of new 5.7 shooters. They've sort of priced their way out of this platform gaining longterm market traction IMO.

A little too oddball and expensive for my tastes and needs. I can afford to spend $1100 on a firearm...just not this one. Wouldn't be on my 'top-10' handguns I'd choose to own, but might make the top 20.

and one is enough.

But a friend of mine is talking about getting one,

My friend got his used (very lightly) for $700+transfer. I think he did well on it. A couple of other things. It almost feels like a toy, it is light to the point of being a feather, even with a full mag. There is very little recoil. I still cannot group with it very well, but it's not my gun so I cannot dial it in to my preferences. Now that I reload, I have a rule that I will not buy a caliber that I cannot reload for (.22 excepted). Yes it is possible to reload the 5/7 but it is not easy and not really cost effective. The cases have a polymer coating to help with feeding and if that coating is worn off the gun will not feed reliably. It is a cool gun though and always gets attention at the range.

I too would like a 5.7. I rented one at the range since one has to use their ammo I shelled out an extra $35 for 50 rounds. Ten minutes later I plopped down another 35. To make a short story long, I enjoyed the gun. I have since read an article that a 22 mag will give you similar ballistics Now a 22 mag. seems closer to the front of my wish list behind 2 or 3 others or if I go to a gun show and something follows me home then it's not my fault Check out 22mags.
