Default Only one Handgun.

Sorry if this topic has been beaten to death. But I got to thinking, do to some problems I might be able to afford/own just one handgun. Sad. Then I was thinking what I need said one gun to do.

Plinker; home def; CCW; hiking/camp; shtf and a duty gun cause Im a "mallninja"
Now for me to qualify to carry a gun at work I will need to pass the range test. Which is Hit a B-52 target at 7 yards, some where in the black, and reload it in 4 sec or less, and be from 9mm to 45 acp.

A little about me. Im 6 feet 255lbs, I will carry it in a shoulder rig or a IWB holster for conceled. I got short fat hands. Ive used and shoot a lot of handguns in my time. I really like the 1911 in 45, but was also wondering 1911 in 38 super??

Price wise. Since this might be my only handgun I dont want to skimp. 2,000 might be pushing it.

Most input will be great! Lets keep the name calling and the hateraid to a minamum. Thanks!!

$2000 will buy you just about any production brand of 1911 with all the bells and whistles.

That's one of my favorite things about the 1911s. You can fit them to your needs no matter the size and shape. There are 1911s of all sizes out there. If you have smaller hands, the short trigger might fit you better. But, if you can, try both triggers out before you drop the cash on one.

If i can only have one gun for the rest of my life it would have to be a glock 23 in 40 cal because it can also use 9mm mags even the 30 round mags in the same frame. you can pay 100$ and get a 9mm conversion barrel and just drop it in and boom you have a reliable glock 9mm. you will have 1 gun available for 2 different calibers. this would be crucial for a shtf situation. there are other conversion kits for other brands of guns but they come in kits and require a gunsmith and arent as popular. Glock parts and accessories for both 9mm and 40 are everywhere.

As much as I love my .45's, my pick would be the glock 19. Its a very versatile handgun and of course the 9mm is the most common handgun round available.

S&W M&P 40 with an extra 9mm barrel. I get a full sized poly framed handgun with Glock reliability and Sig accuracy. Plus, I get to shoot to very common calibers.

Awesome. Thanks for the input. How well does the 9mm and 40 do as a hunting load for small to medium game?? Just in case I need to use it as such.

Hot loaded .40's can hit much harder than .45.

There is a reason the Beretta 92FS is

so popular. I'd go with the 92.

The 92A1 has a swept trigger guard,

1913 rail, and a couple other internal

upgrades. Check it out.

Yeah.... it's been pretty well beat to death.

Only one Handgun. - General Handgun Discussion

But my answer would be a 357 magnum, either a Ruger or Smith and Wesson.
