I prefer a revolver for my night stand gun i keep my .44mag Super Red Hawk it's probally a bit overkill but that gun is very comfortable to me. I chose that gun for that reason also because of nock down power and simplicity of a revolver.

1858 remington 44 for my nightstand gun. I wana set the bad guy on fire with the black powder and create a smoke screen. In all honesty this black powder pistol is just my favorite gun in the world.

I voted other but the reason is i choose both, be aware i have no children or idiots living in my household so i do not lock my guns on a regular basis, thats what my doberman is for lol... anyway on my nightstand i keep my Colt 1991 government, slightly modified by yours truly, my glock 17 with 33 rounder, and my ruger gp100 6". What i would grab in a HD situation is beyond me probably my 12 gauge to be honest, but i train and am efficient with all of them so i have no worries..

Mine is a Hi-Power Practical. However, the practical is currently getting some trigger work done and a set of night sights installed. So, I'm using my Hi-Power Standard. Do you detect a pattern here?

XD9 5" tactical with 16+1. Should get me enough time to get to the real gun - 12gauge in the master closet that has two #4 magnum followed by good old 00. Wifey has SW 38 special next to her. Hope we never need either one.
