Default Next time a liberal

Next time a liberal gives you a hard time about owning a gun, and how bad they are, how they kill people and blah blah, ask them if they have a knife in their house. Lecture them on knife safety. Find some statistics on how many people have been killed from knife violence and how we should ban civilians from owning knives.

You could basically give them the same lecture about owning a car. Cars are pretty darned dangerous.

The number one cause of "unnatural deaths" in this country is prescription drug abuse...33,000 deaths

The number two cause is car 'accidents' (I use the term 'accident' loosely as the word signifies intention...a better word is negligence) 32,000 deaths

The number three cause is firearms... 31,000 deaths. Subtract 17,000 suicides, 3,000 ish justified shootings (LEO and civilian) and gang related violence what is left?

They'll say people die from "accidental" shootings all the time...true, but almost the EXACT number die every year from falling objects. Applying their logic, there should be a law passed that says we all need to walk around wearing hardhats.

The first two causes are static, black and white, not so with firearms.

Tell your anti friends to sell their car and go herbal for their ills, then we'll talk...about how wrong they STILL are...

Edit: I'm quoting numbers from memory, correct me if I'm off...

what about chainsaws, farm equipment, logging industry, mining industry, bathtubs, ladders, and the list could go on and on. yes, guns can be dangerous and even have deadly results when used unsafely and in an improper manner, but so can anything else. education, information, and training are key factors in the safe and proper use of anything that could potentially harm or kill someone.

You are 100 times more likely to be killed by a doctor than a gun.

According to the CDC, in 2009, 21 children ages 10-14 died from accidents with firearms. That same group, same time period lost 90 children from accidental DROWNING.

It proves what I have said all along- No one needs their own swimming pool- there are government supplied pools, with trained life guards. If you want your own pool, then you should have to prove that you have completed government mandated training, and proved that you have a need to own a pool. There should be a waiting period before you can buy a pool (we'll call it a warming up period) and pools should be limited to 10 inches or less.

You know, it's not like you have a RIGHT to a swimming pool, and after all- IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN.........

Above figures are taken from the website, Center for Disease Control. The sarcasm is extra.

Some toddlers can drown in a bucket of water, stumbling in head first and not being able to right themselves. Ban the Buckets.

On another note, my oldest son just bought a house. I went and saw his new home for the first time yesterday when I picked up my granddaughter for the day. I noticed his neighbors have a very large above ground pool........and no fence around their yard. I was incredulous. That is just asking for trouble.

A great sentiment, OP, but almost as misguided as

anti-gun sentiment.

Two things to consider:

1-UNIFICATION- Instead of arguing with antis about

how wrong they are, we should show them we stand strong,

all 140 Million +, 45% of our overall population. What are

we showing the antis now, when only 6 million of us (less than 1 in 25)

are NRA members ??

2-WE are our own worst enemies. IME, many antis are folks

we have alienated by doing things like handing noobs

guns with massive recoil, so we can laugh at their humiliation,

when it knocks them down. 10 seconds of misplaced mirth create

a lifelong gun-hater.

Perhaps a new approach to the anti movement is in order,

because shouting at the rain isn't working.

One thing which does work, in many instances, is taking an

anti to the range with 22s, and letting them in on the fun and empowerment

of shooting. When they see for themselves, at a large range, that we're not all

a bunch of insensitive, drooling neanderthals, it sometimes changes a person's

mind...
