That part is a plastic flat MSH. It is pretty-much standard on production 1911s today. Don't believe me, stick it with a knife tip. It's a great way to take a "MR. 1911 macho owner" down a notch or two! This is not wise to do to any owner of a high-end 1911.

I loath tupperware (plastic)! It was the only reason I needed to replace it with a SS mainspring housing and the mag-guide was a plus!
