Get a .357 no matter what. If you don't get one now you'll just end up regretting it, it will be gnawing at your insides for years and you'll just end up getting one later. That's if there's still decent ones available, because myself and many others will be consistently, impulsively buying up all the quality, classic pieces we come across for years to come.

As for the .22 any of the above mentioned rifles are fun to plink around with and since your a college student you will no doubt be broke and you can shoot a .22 for pretty much free.

For the shotgun, I would just keep popping in to all my local gun shops and see what comes up on the shelves. The Mossberg will serve you well, but you might find an old pump with a bit more character and craftsmanship that will work just as good or even better, especially if you might possibly ever decide to get into skeet, trap, sporting clays, etc.

For hand guns get a 1911 there is only one gun and it is a 1911. No need for that plastic junk.

Rimfire rifle get you a Ruger 10/22 if you want to be like everyone else. If you want to make a statement then get a Browning t-bolt. Smoothest bolt gun you will ever shoot and fast you can shoot it almost as fast as a 10/22.

For a shotgun you can go wrong with either a mossy 500 or a remmy 870. remington has pissed me off the last few years so I say go for the mossy.

I had a Browning T-Bolt when I was a kid. Came with the stock unfinished and I finished it myself. They're expensive now. God I wish I still had that one.
