I recently purchased a torkarev pistol from old russian surplus. The pistol is in good condition but has a ton of storage grease. Any recommendations on removing all of it?

Set it out in the sun. That will soften the cosmoline, then wipe it off. You'll have to repeat as often as necessary.

Another method is to soak it in kerosene or gasoline. That will also dissolve the nasty stuff.

They're fun pistols to shoot. They're loud and the 7.62x25 round is a screamer.

I hear the interior of a car can get pretty hot also, but i would put it in a pan for drippage.

Breaking it down and pouring boiling water helps strip the cosmoline.

Letting it sit in a hot car sounds like a great idea too!

Here in Canada it's tough to find a hot day or a hot car right now, heat gun a good idea?

I doubt you will have any warm car interiors for a few months.

Get a pan that the gun fits into (and your SO won't freak-out with you using to clean guns), remove any parts that can melt and prop the gun up so the grease will run out of the barrel. Pop it into a oven preheated to 200-250º and watch the grease melt.

When the melt is finished, (your call) remove and inspect. Remember the gun is 250º. (read: HOT!)

NOTE: Once the gun has cooled, then and only then wash the entire gun with Dawn dish soap. Blow dry and apply a thin covering of CLP or Cane's Mobil Mystery oil.

It looks pretty clean. Have you found ammo for it yet, if not, get some fast. It's getting scarce with the panic buying that's going on. At least it is here down south of you.

Picked up 100 rounds of non-corrosive. I'm glad the ammo panic has not affected us, yet... Can get plenty of surplus ammo for about $350 for 2500 rounds.
