And bolt face, different barrel and chamber, maybe lengthen the grip front to back, accommodate a longer slide travel for feeding longer rounds...

Not impossible in the least bit. Coonan is a .357 magnum 1911. It can be done.

Now that I think about it, it should be pretty easy. The question, as always, comes down to putting a rimmed round in a semi auto pistol.

But a 1911 that can handle hot 45lc would be sweet.
