Getting a bonus next month and need some advice on which to buy. Looking only at Kimber and Springfield and my price range is around $1,000 to $1,200. I've had a Kimber Pro CDPII before and thinking about getting another one. Also, I want a pro or ultra size 1911. Is there a Kimber in these sizes that already have the Crimson Trace laser grips in this price range? And also wanting a stainless because this will be a daily carry pistol.

There is not Kimber in my safe, though I've had plenty of chances to own a couple.

I do have a Springfield, but mine is so old, there is no comparison to today's models.

Not knowing your experience and my not having a crystal ball to tell the future, I would suggest that you also purchase plenty of ammo. Without ammo, your new purchase is not worth a dern.

I'm pretty gun savvy. I've had a couple of different 1911's too. As for the ammo situation, I'm pretty stocked up and I've started buying a couple of boxes every paycheck and my safe is pretty close to stuffed. I bet that Obama is going to try to create some sort of ammo tax as his anti-gun policies.

This is just my opinion! I would skip the laser. Lasers are accurate. But in a self defense situation I don't want to be in the habit of looking for the dot. I just want to point and shoot at close range. Most self defense situations are less than 10 yards.

45 ammo is expensive. I can shoot 357 hunting loads for the same price as 45 cal FMJ ammo.

Thanks for the advice John_Deer! Right now my carry gun is a Springfield XD-S. I guess the reason I want to get one with Crimson Trace is I want all the bells and whistles I can get for around $1200 or less, but nice quality. I'm also leaning more towards a pro (4") sized.

So many to choose from! :-)
