Go to a range and rent a few. You will then lern what fits you well. That is the best advice I can give you. I have held many I thought I liked and I did not shoot well with.

See if you can find a certified instructor to assist you. You can pick up what seems to be the best fitting, only to find that you may be holding it incorrectly to shoot good scores. (happens all the time).
Go to the range and look at what people are shooting. At my range, lookers are often asked if they would like to try, and are taught all kinds of "secrets".
Find out when the range is going to have competitions and go watch.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

Without hesitation I would recommend the GSG 1911-22.

It is a perfect beginner pistol that you will keep for a life-time!

For a .22, you can't go wrong with any of the Ruger MKIIIs either.

I'll third that recommendation.
The .22lr is cheap to shoot and is a excellent trainer.
Plus that gun will prepare you for the best of all handguns, the true 1911 .45 caliber

I recently had the opportunity to fondle one of the GSGs and it is indeed a very nice piece of hardware. I'm sure it shoots like a dream also.

It fits my hand like a..............well, like a 1911. Has near weight of the 1911 and even has felt recoil.

The fact it’s a German made tack driver is just gravy.

If you are looking for a .22lr handgun of any ilk, do yourself a favor and find one of these to fondle.

If you own a 1911, you will take this pistol home with you.

Five hundred rounds of .22lr cost me <$20, five hundred rounds of .45ACP WWB ball runs me ~$285.

The GSG runs at right around $300, (Mine cost me $286) what’s not to like?
