Default My local rural king now sells guns

I went to my local rural king today and noticed there was a new gun barn (area where guns are for sale at store) and was surprised at the selection. So I go up to the counter and ask to see the sr9c in the case and the salesman ask me to first lay my I.D. on the counter before he can hand me a handgun. This was a first for me and I have bought many guns from many places. Is this a store rule or law? All I wanted was to hold the gun, not buy it. Then he burst out that I shouldn't buy the ruger and he's been steering people away from them because they got a lot of bad reviews with jams and hard slide manipulation.????? How's this when this particular rural king has only been selling handguns for a week?He then says you're better off going with the beretta nano. He didn't even ask what the purpose was (ccw, range,hd). So I ask let me see the sr9c with the grip extension on it and he gets it out and takes the mag out then hands it to me. Wow guy I asked for one with the extension for a reason and you take out the mag? Then he tells me the best bang for buck is the hi-point in the bottom of the case with the best warranty of all the guns they sell. At this point my wife was just looking at me and shaking her head. She's not even in to guns that much and couldn't believe this guy steered me away from ruger, glock, and beretta to hi point. At that point I just left. Prices were ok but I can't believe they have this guy working their gun counter. He knew very little about guns and catering to the customer even less. I left very unimpressed. Have you guys ever dealt with a gun salesman who was an complete idiot like this guy?

It is not uncommon for retail stores such as Rural King to hold your ID, for one it verifies age and it deters shoplifting and such.

I've never had my ID held but this is a good point.

I've been in shops in larger cities that do that.

And yes you will find retards every where you go.

I walk away from places whose policies are more draconian than law. It's my personal preference.

Same attitude I have towards establishments that have the gun buster signs on the door.

The I.D. thing was new to me and wasn't really a big deal. I just feel sorry for the person who has no gun knowledge and goes there depending on the gun clerk to guide them in the right direction and he hands them a lower quality piece and tells them how great it is. He didn't ask my price range or anything. He literally told me stay away from ruger, nano's are excellent, glocks are good but basically only the g17, and hi point was a steal for that $189 price and warranty. I know a lot about semi autos as I have owned my fair share so I don't really go to shops to be informed about handguns anymore but rather to fondle and get a feel for it. I guess since I've bought guns from people who know their stuff the last ten years that when I run into a guy who knows nothing about guns who's selling them it's just a little annoying and a little comical as well since me and the wife got a little laugh on the way out the door.

I have been to ranges that hold your ID as collateral for a rental. I have never heard of a shop asking for it to show merchandise.
No way in heck would I hand over my own firearm like swapping shoes for skates at the roller rink. That's nuts.
