cpttango30 made a very good and accurate list. I'll put my 2 cents worth in a list of what I would choose.

4. 38 Special Ruger LCR or Smith and Wesson J frame/ K frame
5. 357 Magnum Smith and Wesson Model 19 or a K frame
6. 9mm Glock 26, Ruger SR9c, Springfield XDm 3.8 9mm, or Kahr PM9
7. 40 Glock 23/27, Ruger SR40c, or XDm 3.8 40
8. 45 ACP Springfield 1911, Colt 1911, Glock 30, Kimber 1911, or Kahr CW45
9. 45 Long Colt Colt Single Action Army or Ruger New Vaquero

I would say 9mm would be the Luger 9mm or Browning high power and the .38spl is the S&W mod 10 or chiefs special--and the .44 mag the S&W mod 29(dirty harry).

That a boy, I like your thinking. I have nothing to add, I heard mention of a Sigma and had to see what was going on.

You should get a Medusa! Its not a "popular" gun but it will take a big chunk outta wanting to own every handgun caliber.. It shoots over 20 different calibers, almost anything in the .38, .357, 9mm range....

I have to say, I'm really scratching my head on this.

What is the point of collecting the most popular model of the most popular calibers? It seems like you simply have the goal of being able to say "oh yeah, I got one of those too."

Guns are certainly collectible things, but shouldn't a collection be about what "you" like?

A "collection" is what "you" want AND like... I like guns period. I also like to be able to shoot multiple calibers. I dont brag, does nothing for me. I am actually very private about what guns I own and how many, so I am not doing it just to say, "hey I have this, that, and the other. I just want to collect different calibers. My favorite gun is a 1911 but Im not gonna collect 15 of those that would be silly.

Sure, I get that. I'm a gun enthusiast too. Hell, if I won the lottery tomorrow, I'd have a room full of guns the day after tomorrow. What I don't get is the popular angle.
